Goddess Lakshmi

Goddess Lakshmi is symbolic of wealth and prosperity. The divine entities are always found seated on lotus in Pahari tradition. While two of  her arms are stretched out as she bestows wealth upon her devotees, the other two arms hold lotuses symbolising her divinity. Her image stands out prominently on a bright yellow background against dark blue monsoon sky. Her forehead is smeared with sacred vermilion mark to denote her celestial identity.

Red border is characteristically found in Basohli paintings and provides a strong contrast to the plain and bright backgrounds.
