Iconographic Commentary & Symbolism

This piece depicts a landscape in monsoon season in Basohli. It tries to capture the essence of nature and the responses of the flora and fauna to the monsoon season. The chataka birds are seen flying trying to drink the rain water while the peacock displays its feathers trying to attract mates. The trees display their flamboyant colours and the lotuses are in full bloom. The sky is filled with dramatic scalloped clouds with golden streaks of lightning. The painting is divided into three plains displaying visually the grandeur of the coming together of the five elements simultaneously on a rainy day.
