Iconographic Commentary & Symbolism

This is the image of Vishnu and his consort Lakshmi  seated on a golden throne and rendered in Kangra style of Pahari painting tradition. The hues are subtle and so is the line conveying the essence of their sacred presence. The painting is encircled by eight petalled lotus symbolic of their divine entity. Vishnu while holding his attribute, the conch in one of his hands stretches it to hold Lakshmi in a loving gesture while she folds her her arms in loving devotion towards her husband, who is the God of the three worlds symbolically shown by three whirls of gold, silver and vermilion around them. The gold floral design on the couch shows Mughal influences in its design.
