Vishnu seated on a lotus

This image is attributed to the master artist Nainsukh of Guler who was patronised by Thakur Balwant Singh of Jasrota. This is iconic image akin to the image of Vishnu in Thakurdwara at Jasrota. The frontal view is a rare sight in miniature Pahari painting tradition. 

Vishnu is seen seated on a lotus, blue complexioned, bearing his usual attributes of conch, mace, lotus and discus and wearing vanamala (garland of wild flowers). This composition is placed against a simple background so that the attention is drawn towards the main figure. The green trees and light blue sky offer a balancing contrast to the striking blue and yellow of Vishnu. Jewel-studded crown, mace and discus, brocade bordered pitambara and lotus big enough to accommodate his body make this painting interesting.
