Kadamba Tree 1
Iconographic Commentary & Symbolism
The Kadamba tree has much significance in Pichwai tradition associated with the rituals at Nathdwara, the abode of Shrinath ji. It is believed that Krishna resides under the tree and plays Raas leela with gopis, the cowherd girls of Vrindavan. The tree is mentioned in many sacred texts like Harivamsha Purana, Vishnu Purana, Ramayana and Devi Bhagavata Purana and symbolises life, beauty, joy and devotion.
This painting illustrates life in all its glory under the sacred Kadamba tree symbolically suggesting the divine presence of Krishna. The painting is enhanced by a floral border that is depicted in Pichwai traditional manner.
