Pichwai

Pichwai is a traditional Indian art from Nathdwara, a place near Udaipur in Rajasthan that visually depicts the temple rituals based on Pushtimarg tradition of Vaishnavism. The paintings are made on cloth and hung behind the main deity of child Krishna in the Sanctum of the temple. The art uses motifs from nature associated with Krishna: cows, kadamba tree, peacock, fish, birds, and lotuses. Different Pichwais find associations with the temple rituals at Nathdwara.
